Balanced Mathematics asks teachers to think beyond simply implementing a textbook lesson to ensure that students have rigorous mathematical instruction on a daily basis. The Balanced Mathematics model focuses teachers’ attention on four main aspects of math instruction: problem solving, number work, fact fluency & maintenance, and inspecting equations (early algebra). Learn how to incorporate these four elements of math instruction into your daily lesson planning in order to ensure your teaching is balanced throughout the year.
We’ll talk about ways to move from procedural understandings to conceptual understandings while also focusing attention on tying the mathematics students are learning to their everyday lives.
