Explore the possibilities for units of study that empower student writers to choose their own genres. On the heels of publication of his new book by the same title, this workshop will help teachers envision, plan, and execute a wide variety of units for grades K-6.

Students can learn about an author’s craft by studying a stack of texts.  An author’s process can feel hidden since it isn’t spelled out on the page.  Matt will help make writers’ processes visible through video clips, sample mini-lessons, and more. Take a sneak peek at Matt’s new website, authortoauthor.org, where he’s collected links to author interviews relating to five units: Finding Ideas, Using a Writer’s Notebook, Planning, Peer Conferring and Revision.

Then join us in person for this workshop with Matt, one of our community’s favorite visiting scholars in literacy education.
