Geometry & Measurement

Geometry and measurement aren’t separate from the rest of a balanced math curriculum. In fact, problem solving, number work, fluency and maintenance, and inspecting equations support students in understanding geometry and measurement – and vice versa!

In this workshop, teachers will learn how to:

– Discuss geometric principles with students to help them uncover conceptual understandings

– Link measurement to children’s literature for class read-alouds and independent reading

– Use problem solving to support students’ understanding of concepts like area and perimeter

– Integrate inquiry-based geometry and measurement studies throughout the year and across the math block

Teachers will participate in games and inquiry-based problem solving during he workshop to develop their own understandings and experience first-hand what they can replicate with students in their own classrooms.
