Join Ryan and Courtney for a full day celebration of teaching and learning math. Customize your Math Fest agenda to dive deeper into the content you desire:
Session 1, 8:30 – 10:15 am. Choose one:
Option A: Math Story Problem Types
Writing good story problems is about more than “covering” addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Learn to write real-world problems that align with grade level standards.
Option B: Effective Mathematics Teaching Practices
If you’re feeling good about what to teach, join us to focus on how to teach in order to reach every student in your classroom on a daily basis.
Session 2, 10:30 am – 12:15 pm. Choose one:
Option A: Problem Solving Strategies
Simply knowing two or three strategies for solving problems isn’t enough. Discover a developmental progression that will keep children moving forward as they become more efficient in their mathematical understandings.
Option B: Math Notebooks
This session will provide participants with examples for utilizing math notebooks in the elementary classroom. Learn how to organize notebooks, teach classroom routines, and assess students’ understandings.
Lunch 12:15 – 1:15 pm
Session 3, 1:15 – 3:00 pm. Choose one:
Option A: Assessing Problem Solving
Teachers often ask, “How do I give a grade for problem solving?” Explore ways to assess students while attending to developmentally appropriate instruction and grade level standards.
Option B: Number Work
Without a strong foundation in how numbers work, mathematics becomes increasingly difficult as children progress in school. Learn a multitude of easy-to-implement activities that will provide students with ways to explore, create, and develop strong understandings of numbers.
All sessions are appropriate for grades K-8 and reflect principles of balanced math and workshop teaching in math.
